Unlock your child’s potential
Assessment Services for Literacy Difficulties and Dyslexia
Prognostic reports– £500
A psychometric assessment without a formal diagnosis. This is for parents that may be have concerns about their child’s learning profile, but do not want a diagnosis of a literacy difficulty.
Psychometric testing tools are used to offer a deep insight into a learning profile, with recommendations to overcome barriers. These can be carried out for children aged 7 and over, prior to a formal assessment. There is no definitive diagnosis available with this style of report.
Diagnostic Dyslexia reports– £600
An assessment carried out to identify if a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia is present. This offers both quantitative and qualitative results alongside bespoke recommendations for your child’s learning profile.
Key Skills Assessment– £120
This is a 1-1.5 hour long qualitative assessment for children that are below assessment age. These explore the risk factors associated with literacy difficulties and will offer parents both a clear picture of strengths and difficulties in literacy or maths skills, and what can be done to support these. Available to children aged 3-8.
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which primarily affects reading and writing skills. However, it does not only affect these skills. Dyslexia is actually about information processing. Dyslexic people may have difficulty processing and remembering information they see and hear, which can affect learning and the acquisition of literacy skills. Dyslexia can also impact on other areas such as organisational skills.
It is important to remember that there are positives to thinking differently. Many dyslexic people show strengths in areas such as reasoning and in visual and creative fields.
How is Dyslexia diagnosed?
Dyslexia is typically diagnosed through a comprehensive assessment that includes testing of reading, writing, and spelling. The only way dyslexia can be formally diagnosed is through a Diagnostic Assessment carried out by a certified dyslexia assessor. This assessment will tell you if your child is dyslexic or not. You will receive a detailed report outlining areas of strengths and weaknesses and a clearer idea of your child’s cognitive profile and how best to support them.
What are the signs of Dyslexia?
Signs of Dyslexia may include difficulty with reading and spelling, slow and inaccurate reading, difficulty with phonological awareness (seen with difficulty with phonics), difficulty with times tables or following multiple instructions at once.
Can Dyslexia be treated?
While Dyslexia cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed with appropriate interventions. While dyslexia is a lifelong problem, there’s a range of specialist educational interventions that can help children with their reading and writing.
A specific action plan for your child may be drawn up and implemented. While dyslexia is a lifelong problem, there’s a range of specialist educational interventions that can help children with their reading and writing.
These interventions are generally most effective if they’re started at a young age.
